It is Farmers Market Season…garden time.. April 1, 2019

In Charlottesville Virginia we have a great and fun resource that has been around for 30+ years and it returns this week.

The Charlottesville City market (Farmers Market PLUS) starts this Saturday, April 6,2019.

https://www.facebook.com/CharlottesvilleCityMarket/

The Facebook page keeps us updated with the schedule as well as fun activities during the season.

Market onions

There is nothing like an onion fresh from the ground the day or so before.  The early offering include bets and greens and cabbages, along with young turnips and asparagus.

The season proceeds and summer crops arrive with tomatoes, peppers , cucumbers and fruits.

An intermediate fruit offering will be the strawberries. the season is vigorous if short lived.

The City Market also features prepared foods and beautiful crafts in a wide variety of media.

Market Strawberries

Asparagus and strawberries from last year.

Now that the season is approaching….what will be the first purchase this year?

Reading for Success- what to Read? April 13, 2018

I recently re-read SEE YOU AT THE TOP by ZIG ZIGLAR. It was/is his classic from the mid-70’s. It is refreshing in the lack of references to the net, computers and social media. There is much talk of relationships but the focus is on real and face to face connections and contact.

There are several key parts of the book and I will a brief summary of them but the central focus of the book an of Zig’s life as a teacher and trainer, as a DIFFERENCE MAKER in the lives of people, is his famous quote- “YOU CAN HAVE EVERYTHING YOU WANT IN LIFE IF YOU HELP ENOUGH OTHER PEOPLE GET WHAT THEY WANT”

That is an amazingly simple, common sense goal but so difficult for many people to commit to.

That is the central for Zig but in the book he broke it down in the following ways and under the listed ideas:

A. Value of a Healthy Self Image and how to do that

B. Improving relationships with others

C. Goals – Creating ,Writing, and Completing them

D. Attitude- what is a right attitude..and where is it?

E. Work- Value of work

F. Desire

Now this is a basic and simplistic summary, the book is a fast read and loaded with information on all of these topics. The most valuable addition to this book is a list of great books for each of the 6 subjects above.

Early Morning Motivation [or What gets You going} July 13, 2014

Old shoes….useful for muddy work along stream and the trail

Of course the title assumes (ass out of…) you are a morning runner, like I am, {if not apply to your daily plan]
I ALWAyS wake up early- usually close to 4. This was especially bothersome to my parents but they figured a way to keep me quiet…But it was helpful in college when sleep was a silly luxury.
Since most of us are busy – finding the daily time slot to exercise is a challenge but not impossible- I am blessed to survive on the sleep I get so early a.m. is my workout time slot.

Most days I get up and GO !!!  But some days I am up BUT turning on the “motor” (or as the song says- “get the motor runnin, ..”

Some days I hit the bike, others I take a hike on local trails or just go for a walk….I need to move and get a dog so I can have the dog-walk option for low motivation days.

QUESTIONS:

1} How do you start your workout
-get dressed
-stretch
-warm-up
-??
2} Do you have to trick yourself? (fake it til you make it?)\
-pretend you feel good
-Just go and see how IT feels
-do another activity
3} Push through until it is OK
4} Skip it and double up tomorrow (not recommended 😉   )
5} Reward yourself for ongoing persistence
-Do you reward milestones
-Big or little
6} Do you have Goals?
-How do they help/hinder/hurt you?

As for me- my legs feeling solid and running/workouts going well- Need to Just do it like some company says.
